But for those of us on the East coast, an annual trip back to the Hill is not possible. But I have good news for you... As a St. Olaf alumna, it's my duty to share the great news that this year the St. Olaf Christmas Festival will be simulcast in high definition to movie theatres around the country, including many in good old Boston! (This follows the lead of the Metropolitan Opera, which began simulcasts last season to great success.) Details about the Festival: http://www.stolaf.edu/christmasfest/ Ticket information: http://www.fathomevents.com/details.aspx?eventid=675 Maybe a group would like to order tickets and meet up at the Fenway 13 theatre, near Fenway Park, to attend together. You will blend in well with those who have been singing it for years and know it by heart. Our director, Loryne Koebele is a hoot. It's lots of fun to practice with her. The performance is at 4 PM on Sunday, December 9Th at First Lutheran, Boston. Your FLC family needs your support as audience members. For those who would like to sing, the rehearsals are as follows. You might think that the blind would stay home and wait for the sighted to come sing to them. Well, not this group. They bring their joyful, Christmas greetings to those bound in nursing homes. On Saturday, December 1st, A group of about a dozen+ blind adults, members of the FLC, Boston Light of the World, will gather to go caroling at a local nursing home. The plan is to meet at FLC at 2:30pm. We will share rides to the nursing home, (probably the Altenheim in West Roxbury. We will sing from floor to floor or as directed by the staff for about an hour. We will return to FLC and share a simple meal of submarine sandwiches. I'm looking forward to a cup of hot chocolate too. Please let me know if you can help and join in this neat experience. In the end his failing kidneys, weak liver, and continuing seizures were more than his little body could handle. Needless to say, Jason, Mandy and his 23 month-old sister, Josette, are much in need of our prayers and emotional support. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Dennis Koehane on behalf of the Keohane Funeral Home located in Wollaston at 785 Hancock St (617-773-3551) next to St Ann's Roman Catholic Church, and approx 1/2 mile on the right beyond Wollaston Lutheran Church, when coming from Boston. Visitation will be at Keohane FH on Wednesday, 14 Nov 07 from 5-8PM. I will be doing a brief devotion near the end of that time. The Funeral will be at First Lutheran at 10AM on Thursday, 15 Nov 07. I will send Cemetary and Collation locations to you as soon as I have them later today. Memorials should be made out to Children's Hospital Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Flowers are welcome. Thankyou for your thoughts and prayers on behalf of Jason. Mandy and Josette and their extended family. While finding consolation in this trajedy is difficult, I am reminded that we are only Pilgrims on this Earth and that our Heavenly Home in Paradise is a far better place than anything we can imagine. I am convinced that even in our grief, Elijah is happier than he has ever been and...one day...he will be welcoming us home. Blessings even in sadness, Pastor Dutzmann PS be aware that the office is closed for Veteran's Day. The program will include an opportunity to share what we are thankful for and an appropriate Bible study. Turkey will be served with all the fixin's. They are home bound members of our congregation. The Elders, Pastor Riss, Pastor Reuning, and Pastor Dutzman visit them at their homes or nursing homes during the year. They make a special point to get to them at Christmas time and like to bring a basket of goodies. The FLC, LWML, group takes joy in coordinating the making of cookie baskets each year. In order to make them plentiful, we ask for help with baking. If you can find it in your schedule this week to make cookies to contribute, it would add to full, beautiful Christmas baskets for these church family members. We pray for them each Sunday but rarely see them in person. This is a great way to let them know they are not forgotten. If you are interested in visiting a shut in, I have heard Pastor express that he loves to bring company. Give him a call and see if you can join him. If you are able to bake, please keep these quantities in mine. 14 baskets, 4 cookies each is nearly 5 dozen, 2 cookies each is 28 cookies . If you can wrap packages of 2 - 4 cookies in zip lock snack bags or saran wrap, it would help to have them all done so they can easily be added to the baskets. If they are not wrapped, no problem. we will divide and wrap them this Sunday, 12/2, after the 11 AM service. Also, you are welcome to join in the basket making project. Just show up after church and pitch in! Look for project leader, Helen Burtrimowicz.
